Benjamin Clemens is a Denver-based ceramicist who began his practice at the University of Colorado in Boulder. During his time in school, Clemens had intentions to be a printmaker. However, the sterile atmosphere and the need for pristine organization turned Clemens off, and thus began his experimentation with clay. Like many artists, Clemens went through phases of different styles. He began with a hyper-realistic phase when first getting into the medium, but soon after started developing more stylized approaches and became more animal-centric. Now focusing on stylized-human figures, he is working with abstracted figures attempting to explore the human subconscious.
