On an alignment chart, Finn Schult’s practice would probably fall under chaotic good. Finn Schult is a Florida-born, Detroit-based multimedia artist bringing absurdity and y2k aesthetics into their work. Inspired by everything from low-rise-denim-2000’s-icon Paris Hilton to the innovative German filmmaker Hito Steyerl, Schult has built their practice inside the deepest part of the internet. With a Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a Master’s of Fine Art from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Schult’s playful work has more credentials than most local politicians.
Schult’s multifaceted practice can be divided into two main classifications of medium: painting and experimental performance based work. As their paintings take on much of Schult’s whimsicality; their performance work airs on the more dry and conceptually dense.
